Day 2 continues...
Cheesus Christ! What is Taco Tuesday with no cheese, glorious cheese? At least I can just cover everything with chili and call it a day. G-ma did report all yellow diapers today so that gives me an extra incentive to keep it dairy free.
I leave you with this.
I love cheese.
I love puns.
I love annoying orange.

p.s. Ta-co bout' being dedicated to the cause..(waka waka waka) Aaron forgot to get 'no cheese' but I still scrapped it all off! 1 point Leenie/ 0 points Aaron
Day 2
Well, I survived day 1..but it wasn't easy.
I am finding out there are other benefits to no cheese, no dairy diets. For instance, I am currently nursing and sometimes dairy can cause tummy aches and green diapers for baby. Well, she is back to yellow diapers and sleeping well. (This could just be coincidence though.) When I told my mother about this she thought I was full of it and said "You need to drink a glass of milk right now!" I explained that milk is a gateway drug to cheese and for the next month I'm going to JUST SAY NO. I also sent her and email later and received a hiliarious response:

Do I need to drink milk to produce milk?
Human beings are the only animals that consume the milk of other animals. In no other species do the young consume milk after infancy. No other mammalian mothers drink milk, yet they all produce milk adapted to the needs of their young. They obtain all the necessary ingredients to produce milk from their diet. It’s useful to remember that there are whole cultures where the people traditionally do not drink milk or eat dairy products. In some languages, the traditional word for milk means only human milk, and the idea of milk from another mammalian species is totally new to the culture.
Milk and cheese are an important part of the diet of many people. Others thrive without milk or cheese. In any case, there is no need to introduce these foods into the diet or to increase their consumption, especially if the mother does not like or does not tolerate them.
Here is G-ma's response:
Of course you don't HAVE to drink cow milk to produce human milk! The mothers of Eskimo babies survive solely on whale blubber...

I am having a dinner party tonight honoring you and your new baby. The menu will be whale blubber. How does that sound? Cheeeeeeese!
You were raised on cow milk. So was I; a cultural thing for several generations since whale blubber was a little hard to come by for the early settlers. It's good for you to drink non-fat milk, better than cheese; so ..... GOT MILK? If not .... GET MILK!
Notice:This email was sponsored by The American Dairy Association; no heifer teats were elongated in the making of this email.
My next response:
lol-- that is great. you may have spelled teets wrong..i dunno is it teats or teets? you say teet-mato, i say teat-moto! hay, let's call the whole thing off!!
G-Ma's final response:
We'll go "Teat for Tat" on that one! Now, no more personal emails during work, my boss is really MEAN!
Since she babysits for me, I am her boss. Haha!

Official Start of the Cheese Detox- Day 1
Oh wow, I have done alot of crazy things in my life and this may be the CRAZIEST!! 1 month- no cheese!! The only thing that keeps me going is that I know I can eat it again in 35 days and that this is not going to be for the rest of my life. While I embark on this cheeseless journey, here are some interesting tidbits about cheese addiction that I found online for your enjoyment.
So what makes cheese addictive?
In 1981 Eli Hazum and colleagues (referenced in Breaking The Food Seduction) discovered traces of a chemical in cow milk’s that was similar to morphine. They put it through several tests only to conclude that in fact it WAS morphine. Morphine is a highly addictive opiate, but what is it doing in cow’s milk?
Well cow’s produce morphine in their bodies. This is most likely to cause a calming effect on their young to make sure they continue to feed to get the nutrients they need but also to make sure they bond with their mother.
On top of milk containing morphine, it also contains casein which when broken down during digestion frees a whole host of opiates. Casein is in a much higher concentration than in just milk too. So as you can see cheese is highly addictive.
So far so good.. I had a wrap for lunch with no cheese and it was yummy. I'm half way through my day!!
*Warning* This song is really.. ahem.. cheesy.

There is no cheese left in the house. When I ask Aaron to go buy me some, he says "We should go cheese free for one month."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
But I know it has to be done. My addiction is out of control and it's becoming rather expensive. Technically I ate no cheese today, but that was only because there is none left in the house and I was too busy to go get some. So I officially start no cheese tomorrow. Wish me luck!! I will probably document each meal as this is going to be harder for me than giving up... well.. anything!
